Admissions and Appointments

Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy is a medical treatment that requires a prescription. We require an admissions process similar to other outpatient medical services. Holistic Hyperbarics has onsite physicians who will help determine if hyperbaric oxygen therapy is appropriate and safe for you.

If you are curious if hyperbaric oxygen therapy is right for you, please call or text us at (510)-648-9496 to speak with one of our staff. If you are interested in making an appointment, click here to complete our admissions survey. We will review your information and be in contact as soon as possible.

Before You Arrive

Please complete any and all forms sent to you before you come into our clinic for your first visit. These forms are important to your safety and ability to complete your session. You will not be allowed into the chamber if you have not completed your forms in time for our medical staff to review. This includes our Credit Card Use and Authorization form in Square.

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel or reschedule you must call (510) 648-9496. If you contact us within the 24 hour window you may still be responsible for the full cost of your session.

Your First Visit

Please arrive at our clinic 10 minutes early to check in with our front desk staff for completing payment or forms, and to relax for a moment before you begin your appointment.

Our suite entrance is on the corner of 59th and Hollis Streets. If you park in the parking lot you will need to walk up 59th to Hollis to access the clinic. If you need assistance getting into the clinic from your car, please call 510-648-9496 when you are parked and we will come to you.

Once you are greeted by our dive team staff, you will watch a 5-minute introductory safety video that will walk you through the process of a session with Holistic Hyperbarics. While you watch the video, an EMT certified dive guide will take your vital signs before you change into your dive chamber attire.

You will be provided with a locker during your visit at Holistic Hyperbarics. Please put everything in your locker except for what you will have in the chamber. Our technicians will check and confirm that the items you want to bring in the chamber are safe and authorized.

This is the time for any bathroom use and any last minute questions!

When pressurization begins, we recommend you use a piece of chewing gum (provided in the chamber) to help you with clearing your ears during the whole process of pressurization. This is also a good time to review the emergency protocol and safety pamphlet in the chamber.
If you are having trouble clearing your ears or experiencing pain while doing so, please use the red call button to notify the dive guide to assist you.

Once you reach your prescribed pressure, the session has begun and it's time for you to relax, read a book, or sleep. If you need to dispose of your gum, please do so in one or more of the provided tissues within the chamber. If at any time during your dive you experience any discomfort, anxiety, or just really have to go to the bathroom, please use the red call button to notify your dive guide so they can bring you up if it is an emergency. Please be aware that it will take up to 15 minutes to depressurize and safely remove you from the chamber. For more information on this, please review our “Informed Consent and Acknowledgement of Policies” form in your RXNT Patient Portal.

Once you have completed the prescribed time at pressure, decompression will begin. You will have to complete the same process of clearing your ears until all the pressure has been released and the door is opened.

Some patients report feeling a bit lightheaded or “out of it” after their first dive. This is completely normal! We provide a decompression lounge for this purpose. You will be escorted into the lounge after you exit the chamber. Enjoy the hot towels, fruit infused water, and anything else you might need after your dive.

Once you have been released from our care, you are free to go and feel the immediate benefits of HBOT in the world and tackle the day. We will be in touch after the first 12 hours to see how you're feeling.

How to prepare for your dive

We encourage you to:

  • Leave your smart watch or fitness tracker at home, or be prepared to remove it and store it in your locker. These devices are prohibited in the chamber.

  • Prepare to be without your mobile phone. Phones are prohibited in the chamber. Let anyone who might want to get in touch with you know you will be without your phone for the duration of your dive.

  • Have a snack before your session

  • Bring a book if you’d like entertainment

  • Prepare to take a nap - many of our patients find the chamber a relaxing environment.

We ask that you refrain from the following, beginning 4 hours before treatment:

  • Drinking carbonated beverages, including kombucha

  • Smoking or other means of nicotine delivery

  • Hallucinogenic or other psychoactive substances

  • Sleep medications or any other drugs that might make you drowsy
